Hi
just about to purchase a Khyam driveaway awning but came across a problem with the flap that attaches to the Omnister wind out awning Khyam are asking the size of the Kador is it 6mm or 4 mm and check it with a drill bit, i have found doing this impossible and have ordered a 7 x 6 but feel this might be wrong, anyone any bright ideas

Khyam motordome driveaway awning Empty Re: Khyam motordome driveaway awning

Hi John Dean, I'm Barry. I have owned a Khyam Motordome drive away awning for about 10 years now. Brilliant bit of kit! Once you get into the way of building and fitting it to your vehicle you'll have it up and joined in about 10 mins and fully pegged down within an hour!

I have 2 pieces of Kador strip (I had to look up "Kador" on internet before replying to you, I wasn't certain!). One is 7mm x 7mm, the other is 7mm x 5mm. You'll find it depends on the size of the slot in the front face of your wind out awning that winds out from the 'van. Different models and makes of awning have varying sizes of slot and require a different size of Kador strip. Don't be surprised if you find you need a couple of different sizes.

The Kador strip joins the awning flap (the makers call it a gasket) to the wind out awning. Wind out your awning (to bring the front edge lower to the ground - it's easier to work on then. It's difficult when the awning's slot is way up near the top of the 'van) Fit a figure-of-8 strip to the Khyam's flap edge. Fit your Kador strip into the Omnistor awning slot at the same time as it goes into the other side of the figure-of-8 strip you attached to the Khyam. Wind the Omnistor back up (in). The Khyam goes up with it - easy a'int it?

The figure-of-8 strip I have takes the 7mm dia side. My current brand new vehicle has a Thule (Omnistor) awning, it likes the 5mm side. I have had to use the 7mm x 7mm strip only a few times in the past. Your selection of a 7mm x 6mm strip may well be a superb choice for you, if in doubt, buy a few!

Good luck and best wishes.

Malvern motorhome show will be almost finished on Sunday, lots of exhibitors will be gone. My advice would be to go on Friday and look around all weekend or go on Saturday at least. Good luck John, enjoy.

You're very welcome to any help John. I can only hope you enjoy your Khyam as much as we enjoyed have our 3 mtr square (+the depth of the gasket) over the years. By the way, we have rarely ever had to fully peg it down with the fitted guy ropes! It is designed to move with the wind, it doesn't get damaged that way.

When I spoke of the dimensions above I had measured the outside diameter, over the material, with a vernier caliper. Perhaps the manufacturer refers only to the diameter of the round plastic strip inside the outer cover?

Best wishes

Barry.
