Re: Whale water filling system on Nuevo
I'm with Geoff Brooke on this. Why carry a water container and a pump to fill a water container with a pump ? Just keep topping the tank up as necessary with a hose or watering can. Both easily transported and it's difficult to see how they can go wrong.

You carry a watering can- as we used to do- now we only carry a bucket, as we have always done. The watering can is doing duty in the garden. As any camper kno, a bucket has 1001 uses in a motorhome anyway. The pump is very small and on the end of the hose.styler wrote:I'm with Geoff Brooke on this. My redundant watering can now fills the toilet header tank.

Overkill ! A small funnel and 2 litre milk bottle do the job just as well and take up less space.

Why the funnel? - I pour direct from the 4 pint milk bottle (and it takes more of those than I expect!)

Re: Whale water filling system on Nuevo
Seriously...We've not had a reservoir system for very many years and I wonder if we will continue to use it. Given that the loo relies on gravity to remove the_waste not a flush to push it round the bend as at home, then a quick squirt with a bottle of something nice smelling round the bowl should be all that is necessary most of the time. ( Before you ask, I' m an advocate of the one ply paper napkin method for the rest of the time !)
Saves possible accidents if the reservoir leaks and the FAFF of filling it up and carting umpteen litres of water to the dump point.

Re: Whale water filling system on Nuevo
couldnt agree more....thanks given for the elimination of the seperate water filler for the toilet...another chore gone !
could never understand the need ....no continental vans/ campers have that system....at home we dont have a seperate header tank in the loft just to flush the loo !
The only people that are miffed are the manufacturers of the additive to put in the fresh water supply to the toilet.
more money saved and one less item to carry / forget / cost !.
A quick spray with a nice fragrance is all thats required.
Dont want to start a dialogue re AS owners toilet habits (but could be quite entertaining....think lavatory humour...and I just know we wont be able to resist ) but most people just use the loo for a quick wee in the night.
Cant wait for the replles...but nots let get BOGGEd down . !

Re: Whale water filling system on Nuevo
Just returned from 6 weeks in Italy and the Mosel, love the whale system. We have a 20 ltr water container, no more driving off pitch to fill up. Used it permanently connected to pitch tap, brilliant. Just connect and forget.Quilter wrote:Bertie: give it a try before you make a decision about the Whale system. We were unsure at first after all we'd read but like it. The chief advantage is that it is set going and forget it while you get on with other things. It switches off automatically when the tank is full. No more running in and out, with muddy feet, to monitor the filler gauge and no more embarrassment of water flowing out of the overflow if you get distracted.
It is no slower than our previous Bessacarr which, if you tried to fill too fast, used to shoot the water back at you.
We now carry a bucket rather than a watering can for when we don't want to move the van and the Whale pump sucks it out of that in no time at all.
We've not used it yet but hope, when we go to Spain for the winter, we will be able to take advantage of the mains taps on the pitches there and have the hose connected all the time.

Re: Whale water filling system on Nuevo
really reccomend an in line filter btween mains and your van....the whale filter (internal nand difficult to reach in most vans...and a ball ache to remove).
these inline filters with hoselock type male fittings included are only a few £...all you need to buy are two female connectors.
After 3 months in spain last year i couldnt believe the amount of debris the filter collected...saving mega problems in the van.
the filter is nylon mesh in a transparent plastic housing and is a few seconds job to remove and rinse.
if you cant find one i have a spare which i will post to you.
marjal camp site at guadamar...close to alicante is superb...as used by many AS campers.

hi John,
just looked at mine and is now discontinued by B &Q.
No problem see Karcher similar product on amazon or ebay
Karcher in line water filter amazon code 47300590 £13.49.
you may find one cheaper but from my experience its worth 5 times that price to avoid the whale system getting clogged and having to remove.
best regards

Anyone thought of pushing the water pipe connections together (leading to the 'van, not inside it) and inserting a piece of nylon mesh (similar to a piece of womens' tights) between the two pieces of hose connections? This would filter the water BEFORE it gets to the 'van. Cost = £NIL.

All 2015 coachbuilt models will have both whale and normal fillers as standard.

I think that is a good move by Autosleepers as it will satisfy those who prefer each method.
More relevant though, is that it demonstrates that Autosleeper have a 'can do' attitude and are listening to their existing clients - which will put them a cut above the competition again.

Re: Whale water filling system on Nuevo
I wonder how many of those who do have and don' t like the AS Whale system really do as per the instructions and lift the lid of the filler up as far as possible, insert the filler and then lower the lid to lock it in place. If you don' t do it this way then the flow rate is considerably slower.
