"It cost the taxpayer one billion pounds!"
Hi there,
I am sick to death of hearing reports that say:
A better statement would be:
Or am I being cynical again?
Best regards,
I am sick to death of hearing reports that say:
"Selling the Post Office off so cheaply cost the taxpayer one billion pounds!"
A better statement would be:
"Selling the Post Office off so cheaply gave one billion pounds of unearned profits to Tory friends in the financial market!"
Or am I being cynical again?
Best regards,

Hi Ian, I think you could have bought those cheap shares and sold them at a profit.I believe the post workers had plenty.
You do not have to be a Tory.
Neverless it was a Cxxk up.

Mike

The post office
Ooops! did I miss something? I did not know that the post office had been sold off. That was one of the first great institutes of britain that set the bench mark for the rest of the world, wait until telecomunications starts to break down then all will go to the wall!
The same thing happened to the rail system and look where that is now. I have understood that it is the work of the goverment to control the ups and downs of the economy to insure these services are always well maintained and avaliable. I think I will start to say just britain now and drop the great or change the uk to usless kingdom.

Hi there,
A US commentator once said:
If you care to check who actually owns these privatised companies now you will find that:
A) They are predominantly owned by foreign companies! and,
B) Here's the real irony of "privatisation"; some of these foreign companies are themselves "state-owned" companies.
The saying "Lions lead by donkeys." is a genuine description of the UK over the past thirty years.
A US commentator once said:
"The greatest crime of the 20th Century was when the British Government
sold to the British Public that which they already owned."
I do not agree with this! Mainly because they DID NOT sell the state owned industries to the British Public; they sold them to their friends in the financial sector.
Here is the history of privatisation:
British Gas (the first one to be privatised) 55% of the shares were offered to the general public.
British Telecom (the last one to be privatised under Thatcher) 15% of the shares were offered to the general public.
Post Office approximately 5% of the shares were offered to the general public.

Hello Duetto
I have not lived in England for the last 25 years and dont really hear anything unless its regarded as a "threat to cultural integraty" notification. Seems to me that the british goverments misuse of power is worse than my spelling! and that takes some beating as I consider that I can only just remember how to do it. I have never heard the saying "Lions lead by donkeys" and I find that amusing but I have heard of "Like lambs to a slaughter", dont realy know what is the better.
Regards

Short term gain for long term loss and disruption.
As it is the same people selling them off that were responsible for running them while they were Nationalised Industries is it any wonder that they could only see a profit in selling them off.
