Mosel valley.
Off on our 4 week jaunt shortly and have decided to do a slight detour along the Mosel. Normally we do France, but SWMBO saw a recent TV programme and thought it would be nice to check it out. Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Mosel valley.
This is the third time of writing in 60 mins as I keep going for links and then losing my work!!!! so links first.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - location of winery on east bank stellplatz at other side of bridge on west bank.
The Mosel in France is boring but from where it meets the German/Luxemburg border to where it meets the Rhine at Koblenz its lovely. The road follows the river and virtually every town has a stellplatz ranging in size from 10 to 200 vans and charging 6€ a night.
All or the towns have vinyards, wineries and restaurants aplenty and the end of June to early July is wine festival time.
Trier with its fabulous roman buildings and museums is a must. We will be staying at Schweich on Wednesday night en-route for Italy and on return will be staying at Zell am Mosel and Cochem for a few nights.
See the links above for the winery at Zell am Mosel where I have been procuring my Riesling for several years (some times in person like this year and often by post). Peter Weiss is only too happy for you to taste his wine and I've had several opportunities to go through his entire range!
If you get up to Koblenz it is worth going along the Rhine to Rudesheim and spending a couple of nights there. Camping will be difficult there 19th to 22nd June as they have a fantastic Harley Davison weekend. The fabulous Rhine in Flames event takes place on 5th July.
I really do love that area and unless turning straight towards south west France always try and fit in a few days during a trip.

Re: Mosel valley.
Last year we stayed at Bullay on the Mossel, Baren Camp (ACSI Site). Lovely site in a small village on the Mossel. Our pitch overlooked the river. We spent a day on the river with a boat trip to Berncastle bookable through the site office. The pick up point for the boat is at the site entrance. Cochem is only a short drive away. This area of Germany is builtiful, you are not too far from the Eifel Mountains Trier and lots of other lovely days out. I spent a lot of my free time in this area whilst stationed in Germany.

Re: Mosel valley.
If you prefer stopping on a site, I can highly recommend the campsite behind the four star BurgStadt hotel in Kastellaun. We have stopped there quite a few times now(when we didn't have our own facilities). It is handy for both the Rhine and the Mosel being on the plateau between the two. All level hardstandings and first class facilities as expected from a four star establishment. A short walk into Kastellaun which has numerous shops/supermarkets and especially "getrankemarkt" if your tipple is beer. It is no longer an ACSI site but will still give a discount to ACSI members.
