Removing rear steadies on a Broadway
Despite frugal packing and much pruning we are closer than we like to be to our payload limit on our new Broadway EK TB LP. We still have 2 bikes ( total 34 kg) to add to the bike rack.
We'd like to remove the rear steadies; they are not something we've ever used on previous vans and we're pretty sure we'll not use them on this one. Has anyone done this themselves and is it just as straightforward as unbolting them or is there more to it ?

I took the steadies off the Windsor (similar size of van ) a couple of years ago as we never needed them and was surprised how heavy they were - not missed them

You just unbolt them. They weigh about 13 kg for the pair, quite a saving!
I did take them off once, but had the van replated to 3700kg so put them back on, but have never used them. They do add a bit of strength to the rear though.

Thank you very much both for the prompt replies. Once it stops raining we'll be over there with the tool box !

We use our steadies on our Legend (Year 2000). Dave recently unbolted them, and removed them for de-gundging. After cleaning, he protected them with "Hammerite", and lubricated them with "3 in 1 White Lithium Grease", bought from B & Q... And they are now back in place and working much easier

Re: Removing rear steadies on a Broadway
I always use the rear steadies when parked up on our driveway. Just think it takes the strain off the suspension as many Nuevo's, seem to "sag" and look very low at the back. Whether due to this our 5 year old van sits nice and level even when fully laden.
Just seems that as something like 90/95% of the time the van sits at home waiting for the next trip and just to ease a little of the weight from the springs must help them from loosing there tension.
Food fro thought!

Re: Removing rear steadies on a Broadway
So far no problem Steve. We don't have a huge load in the van and the weight on the back axle is 80 kg tolerance. We've had vans with longer overhangs than this one with no sign of sag nor have we felt the need for steadies on any of them.
Thank you everyone for your valuable input.

Re: Removing rear steadies on a Broadway
An update: we removed the steadies today and have just weighed them. Total for the two is 10.30 kg. Not as much as we had hoped but it is all off the back axle so every little helps. The handle to wind them down weighs almost 2 kg but that also winds the jack so can't be left behind.
