Nuevo ES Habitation door lock
We're having problems with the latch/lock on the habitation door of our 2007 Nuevo ES.
The bottom lock "post" (for want of a better word!) on the lower latch seems to be stuck in the locked position and will only move down to the unlocked position manually, when the door is open.
It feels as if its got something to do with the handle mechanism, but we're not sure.
Anyone got any ideas please?

Re: Nuevo ES Habitation door lock
I once had a similar problem. It was a broken spring. It is a real pain to get the covers off the door and get to the lock but once there I found the break at the neck of the hook end. I uncoiled a little of the spring to make a new hook and replaced it. All worked well for the rest of the time I had the van.

Re: Nuevo ES Habitation door lock
Thanks Peter!
Well, we're struggling with the door panel right now! Got the bottom one off but it seems the inside door handle needs to come off too to get the top panel off....
Just rung Autosleepers for advice and are told to rive a bit harder!!
We don't think its the spring at fault as the latch works part way but not all the way. Hopefully it just needs cleaning and lubricating.
Just hope we can get it all back together again afterwards as the guy at Autosleepers says they don't make these doors anymore and the new ones are a different aperture!
Well here goes...

See if there is any more wear on the lower latching pin than the top. If so a turn or two of insulating tape will sort. If you are in ASOC and going to the AGM look us up and I will show you ours ( which is actually the top one in our case )

Thanks to Peter and Roger for your interest.
After fighting with the top door panel we realised we would have to take the door handle and associated gubbins off too...we got scared and didn't dare do it in case it never went back on!
But nearly a can full of silicone lubricant spray later, fired up behind the panel and all over the bottom latch, we seem to have fixed the problem....don't hold your breath!!

After locking/unlocking from outside, make sure key hole has returned to correct position.

Try squirting some WD40 type lubrication into the locking mechanism.DAVISM wrote:2005 Nuevo EK Habitation door wont lock from the inside, locks on key from outside fine any solutions would be helpful

Re: Nuevo ES Habitation door lock
WD40 for mechanixm - yes, but for the lock barrel (the key slot) a resounding NO! There you should preferably use colloidal graphite available in puffer bottles. If you cannot locate that then rub a 3B pencil on the key several times and put it in and out of the lock - repeat till key slides in and out and also rotates smoothly.
I have a similar problem to check out with mine. The central locking has ceased to work, though using key or inside handle works fine. Probably a lubrication issue around the solenoid linkage. Abjob for earky March!

Re: Nuevo ES Habitation door lock
Ron is spot on re: WD40 and graphite.
WD40 is not strictly a lubricant, although it obviously does lubricate to some extent. Anything liquid(ish) in the keyhole is going to collect grit and other bits of detritus, which is not a good idea!!
If you can't get hold of any colloidal graphite, you could shave some powder off a pencil lead, preferably a 3B or even softer, and tease that into the keyhole. It's nearly as good.
Hope this helps.

And I totally agree - which is why I wrote Mechanism and not Barrel Lock!Gromit wrote:Ron is spot on re: WD40 and graphite.

But, with anything mechanical (within reason) that is sticking then the application of some sort of freeing agent (such as WD40 or similar product) would be my approach in the first instance to get it working. Once functioning correctly I would then thoroughly clean off the relieving agent and apply the appropriate long term lubrication for the particular mechanism in question.
