What are all these 'Wots' about? Empty What are all these 'Wots' about?

Yet again this morning!! (and again on the BBC !  with Breakfast reporter during the obligitory 'banter like' live reporting - this time from Wimbledon)

Why do news reporters etc. seem to state  this  line now so often back to the studio presenter .  It regularly  precludes  an item that they must be  under the impression is  of incredible interest to everyone else, and as a result regularly now blurt out ................................ "Ja no wot"   (presumably to actually mean "Do you know what"

I personally don't particularly "want to know what"  I just want the daily news etc. in the old established  clear and  informative way confused3

None of this casual form of pronunciation and phrasing in the days of the old 'BBC Home Service'  (Wireless days)

Who else remembers with some nostalgia ?....    "This is the News from the BBC Home Service with Alvar Liddell reading it"

We occasionally get e-mails from customers with a lot of 'text-speak' in them, ( younger ones I suspect ) so we ignore them, then, after a couple of days

of having no reply, they phone & ask if we got their mail, we then reply that we did, but didn't understand it hugegrins

A bit futile of me I know, but I get some sort of weird satisfaction from it   snigger

HOWEVER, if they ever e-mail us again, its strangely in perfect 'English', so maybe we're contributing to their education smile!

At least they are not saying "Innit" yet - - -

Although I fear it's only a matter of time - - - Grandson has now stopped saying it since I gave him a grandfatherly clip round the ear - - - just trying to smarten him up a bit, Innit?

What are all these 'Wots' about? Empty Slightly off topic but................

Post by Tommy-Darcy Mon Jul 08, 2013 5:09 pm

.....................write ups in local papers using slang.

For example just last week in the case of an arson attack the term used was "torched" and instead of the Police the word "Cops" appeared. confused3

Perhaps it is so that the perpetrators are able to recognise the report on their crimes and also recognise those who hope to catch them in a language they understand. Grrrrr....................!

What are all these 'Wots' about? Empty Yes/No ??

Post by LobbyLudd Tue Jul 09, 2013 10:52 am

And now the addition of  "YEA/NO!" as an acknowledgement to a simple question. Is it yes or no or a strange middle ground of not really having a clue towards knowing very much or caring about the news subject in hand!!shrugg
