Call me cynical maybe Empty Call me cynical maybe

Post by Bobskate Mon Nov 30, 2020 4:34 pm

Splashed over the BBC News website today we have:

Rita Ora says she's "deeply sorry" for breaking English lockdown rules to celebrate her 30th birthday.

The singer says she attended a party at a restaurant in west London on Saturday.

"Given the restrictions, I realise how irresponsible these actions were and I take full responsibility," she wrote in a statement.

It's reported up to 30 people were at the party, although she describes the event as a "small gathering"....it goes on.....

I have never heard of her. For me there is just the suspicion that it maybe a publicity stunt to promote a new album about to be issued. I may well be wrong but with a derisory £100 fine could be money well spent.

I will now be inundated with postings from fans who frequent this forum. 😀

Hello cyclical maybe hugegrins

you ain't the only one who hasn't got a clue who she is.
Whenever we watch these "celebrity" shows, we've no idea who half of them are these days.

I must admit that I have no idea who most of these so called celebrities are but I have frequently heard of Rita Ora.

No idea whatsoever why she is well known or what she has done to become such a celebrity though shrugg

I have now reached the same level of ignorance of contemporary music as the 1960s judge who (allegedly) asked who the Beatles were. "A popular beat combo, M'lud" was the barrister's reply.

It is indeed, but it's pronounced as if it's all one word - kiora.

The other, more common greeting is G'dayowareya?

To which one replies, "Good thenks".  Whistle1 hugegrins

My 8 year old kiwi granddaughter who learns Maori at school corrects me and says it translates as 'be healthy', but everyone I know over there uses it as an informal greeting, like 'hi'.

I know who she is, she is currently appearing in an ad for iPhones on EE with that actor chappie Kevin Ham, sorry Bacon snigger Having said that, my knowledge of popular music acts is rubbish.

My understanding is that the “Who are the Beatles?” quote is misleading. I am told that the judge asked the question for the benefit of the jury, in case any members did not know.

Having listened to judges and been on several juries both versions could be correct. As they say.....the jury is out on that one!
