Those of you in ASOC will have read Chris's article in latest newsletter on her and Peters visit to the above, If you have never been its worth a visit, provided you are not looking for rowdy nightlife, foods good locallt though.  We have had rallies there in the past.

We had a rather unhappy stay on that site... We were placed on a pitch just by the site office and there we loads of kids screaming down the site often within a couple of feet of the van..
Not for us .. Fortunately we were only there for two nights.

We are perhaps lucky that we rarely camp in school holidays so usually only a few children about. Our stay at Ravenglass was lovely and quiet, we were up by the camping pods but they were all vacant.

I guess you can be unlucky on any site - last year I stayed at the Milarochy Bay site during the school holidays, and the place was packed full with what appeared (from their behaviour) to be kids with "troubled" backgrounds. Went again this year and no unruly kids at all - just a few well-behaved ones...

If you're into walking, there is a very nice route (well I enjoyed it anyway) from Ravenglass across Muncaster Fell that takes you all the way to the station at Boot - where you can take the narrow gauge railway back down to Ravenglass.

If you have any health problems I suggest you do the trip the other way round.

Agreed - there was a good reason why I did it the "wrong" way round, but I can't remember what it was now!

We have been many times . often stayed as I was a Guard on Ratty railway.   always very peaceful
I would have asked them why they were so noisy or spoken to there parents .
I would never NOT visit again for such a reason

The last post was made over seven years ago, we were there in April this year and still a great site and area to visit.

Our last visit there was one week before the guy went crazy and shot people at random, we had been to most of the places where he shot people. It felt as if he had followed our route.

A quiet site though, with good food at the local pub. We also had a train ride on the miniature railway, followed by a fish and chip supper at our destination at Eskdale.

We were staying at Dockray Meadow the same week as you were at Ravenglass, starting the coast to coast walk.

I was a Guard on the railway that week when On 2 June 2010 Derrick Bird 52 shot his. twin  brother 11times
At Rowrah Frisington. he then went to his solicitor and shot him dead ,he then went after fellow Taxi drivers in Whitehaven
He killed 12 people and injured 11 .then killed him self.
Yes the Ravenglass ams has good meals and is dog friendly I went in there often with my dog Buzz a springer spaniel a retired police dog ...He was fond of a foot plate ride .
Although covid changed things they have a very safe traveling method now on the railway.
Sadly my age and Heath I am no longer a guard .I do miss it the beautiful Vally and Liile Ratty.

We stopped there back in 2013 I think it was. ( we had the Nuevo) really enjoyed the area and walks with Maisie.
The wee site shop had alcohol ( beer wine) but wasn't licensed to sell ,so you had to purchase a raffle ticket and you automatically won a 6 pack of beer or wine.
Loved the wee Ratty railway, didn't go on it.
Might visit next year.

Lived and worked near Whitehaven in mid to late 80s, was a Special Constable based in Whitehaven for five years, once I passed my police driving test we did occasionally drive down the coast. Have lots of fond memories of that time and many tales vrom amusing to scary about policing a rural area back then
