Re: Moly slip in gearbox
hi
Peugeot changed the recommended gearbox oil to a thinner grade which made my gearbox very notchy, changing back to the original thicker standard grade made a great improvement,

Re: Moly slip in gearbox
Rather than use Moly, I tried using a fully synthetic 75-90SAE gear oil and that did the trick (in a MK5 Transit).

Re: Moly slip in gearbox
Synchromesh cones rely on friction to operate and avoid gear crunch - using a friction reducer like Moly could actually make the gears more difficult to select

Hi
When you stated original oil did you mean the one specified in the original handbook or the one that is recommended now as there is a big difference,
I had the same problem as you, tried the suggested oil in Halfords no difference and then I retried the original spec great results and I have done a few
thousand miles since, there is a thread that goes into this in depth including adjusting clutch pedal etc.
Good luck
Pat

Re: Moly slip in gearbox
hi
I meant the original spec oil as in the handbook.Long story but the main agent put the new spec oil in and the gear change was so bad I thought they had damaged something. I the end I had the oil changed back to the original spec and everything was OK again. It,s worth knowing that the clutch pedal needs to be pushed to the floor when changing gear and it should be adjusted so that if you press down lightly to take up the free play it should be level with the brake pedal. There is a measurement for pedal travel but I found this to be unobtainable on my van, also you do not need clearance at the release bearing as this is designed for constant contact,
regards,
Chris
