Just purchased a ford amethsyt
Hello
after seeing a poor old (2004) autosleeper static, lonesome and bewildered and for sale in an exposed to the weather front garden not far from our home for last 18 months/two years i poped an offer and to my surprise was accepted !! 2004 amethyst transit with 10,000 on the clock ! owned by eldery lady 2006 to date ! all the MOT's ! Catch ? standing naked and exposed with very little road use for years there are the usual problems - bit of water from the side window left a mark on the lining / fuel bit contaminated through lack of use / several bewildering spider web cracking to gelcoat / slight leak from durashift gear selecter / tyres slight wall cracking and no doubt other yat to be discovered items. Someone has attempted to " tee cut " the cracks away with disasteress affect! I had it MOT'd with no advisories and paid ford main dealer £90 to check it over resulting in their advising new gear selector unit (£1200) !! i made the mistake of pointing out a possible leak prior to check being carried out,mmm... other than that just one windscreen wiper 3 cracked wall tyres (no problem with the treads) reversing light and front discs and pads to be replaced. I purchased 1 ltr gear selecter fluid (£24) topped up the resevoir and its still topped up ! I took it on a 60 mile round trip and it was a great drive. Hav'nt used it for purpose yet as we are up to our neck in house renovation - hense diversion of funds fired by need for occasional getaway from it all. being a novice keen dinghy sailor (soon to be pensioner) i like the idea of lakeside pitch etc.. got the dinghy but theres no towbar - towbar or not towbar, that is the question ??
On going project..
We love the shape of the Auosleepers, a kind of gritty British look about them, not flashy but the closer you get to them the more impressive they look - sort of 'get the job done' stance , that our oppinion - not cheap though new are they, bit like those leather walking shoes you can pay up to £300 pair for !
We of course accept that we have to catch up with the lacking maintainance scheduals and terrible paint job, we are sure that the poor lady seller got fed up with every potential buyer picking holes in it.
Sorry to prattle on a bit, really looking forward to using it.

Hi there,
Welcome from what has been a dull and windy day in Skegness.
It sounds that after the application of some TLC you may have found a gem there!
Best regards,

Hello hijet
We like the sound of your Amethyst a good buy with only 10,000 miles on the clock.
Welcome to the forum from a 1995 Amethyst owner. These vans can keep looking good for a long time with a bit of TLC. We visited a dealer recently and looked at various different makes of motorhomes. We were suprised to see the poor condition of some interiors in fairly new vans. Front seats badly worn etc.
Happy Motorhoming
