Re: shingles
brilliant!
Why is it that I now seem to qualify for those things I really do not want to need; but must have??
I will be first in line come September and in the meantime hoping that the illness stays away!
Thanks for the information!
Best regards,
PS
Do you think that those of us who don't really need it could all pass it on to Iain Duncan Smith?

sorry but .....
I was in Singapore many, many years ago when it had something of a reputation ..... if you know what I mean!
However, a "must do" even in those days was to go to the Raffles Hotel, have a gin-sling and watch the sparrows trying to find food in the peanut debris on the floor.
In about 1998 I took my good lady there when I was on a job and we did all the "touristy" things. Helen was intrigued by the Raffles Bar so when she returned with her sister in 2003 (on their way to Australia) they headed for Raffles - on foot!
After walking for the best part of four hours on a hot afternoon and evening they eventually found their way to Raffles; at which time Helen discovered that sparrows go to bed when it gets dark!!
Apparently the gin-slings were still OK though!! (Much better than the "shin-glings" that we are supposed to be discussing!)
Enjoy your stay and don't forget to order some "Drunken Prawns" down on the beach!
Best regards,
Ian

Re: shingles
bad news i am afraid.
Shingles vaccine is in short supply.
This means jabs are rationed.
This is the NHS method.
Available now for any one aged 70 OR aged 79.
Over 70 you get your jab when you get to 79.
Under 70 or over 80 nothing.

Mike,
Typical.
In Skegness we couldn't even get the flu jab last year so my appointment this Wednesday morning isn't looking too good.
Best regards,

Re: shingles
Mike,
I can update you on what is happening here in Skegness!
You couldn't make it up!
Apparently it is "If you are 70 years old." OR "If you are 79 years old." you can get the jab! i.e. ONLY people falling into those two years are getting the option of being inoculated NOT the people who are between those two years!
I have seen some odd ways of rationing stuff in my time but this takes the biscuit!!
When I asked for my jab they told me that the next "Shingles Inoculation Clinic" will be on 22nd October, by which time we will be in Italy; hopefully on a non-shingle beach!!
I have made arrangements to get on the December clinic when we return so here's hoping that they haven't run out by then.
Best regards,
Ian
PS
We did get the flu jab today. Last year we couldn't get one because the NHS hadn't sent any to the NHS Practices in Skegness; even though they were available at Boots!!
"The NHS is safe in our hands." Ho ho ing ho!! Whoever said that in the last five years was a lying .
