just watch a quick repeat of Monday's (yesterday) news briefing , questions at the end from the great British press aimed at the PM and his side kicks. Much better than me saying what the question was.

Re: Celebrities.....
I just watched the evening broadcast with questions on the iplayer assuming the question was the one at about 7.30 pm, it was fairly typical of the woman. In many ways she epitomises how the standard of journalism across the board has fallen to lows never expected from a public service broadcaster.
The person I really want to see on the boat, is the stupid woman (keunsberg ?) who stands outside Downing Street and shouts pathetic questions at any politician entering or leaving no.10.
If I was a politician I certainly would be disinclined to engage with such persons.
I would give money to see some of our politicians respond to some of the questions with a robust reply like “what a stupid question”
Bit of a thread deviation, sorry, but I think we are going to need a bigger boat. Pretty much all journalists and politicians onboard.

I looked at the iplayer, news section and the briefing by the PM. I assume that is the correct location. The keunsberg question was at about 19.30. I think each reporter only gets one question so I assume it is the one babian refers to.

Re: Celebrities.....
Gromit, have just watched back again the Monday's news briefing.
I stand bye my earlier statement, the lady needs to be on a boat and off to isolate somewhere.
Watching it for a second time and after listening to all the statements from the PM and side kicks regarding their roadmap, their data, earliest dates for each stage etc. Questions from the public then more data, dates and hopeful roadmap openings.
The lady from the BBC was invited to ask a question .
"when will be the date prime minister that this is all over ?"

Re: Celebrities.....
With due respect Babian that was not the question asked, she asked when he felt he could say to the public it was all over she had already acknowledged that there will be restrictions for another four months so to my mind she was inviting him to say what he felt the conditions will be when he feels that the pandemic is over and COVID is under control. For sure that will not on June 21st.babian wrote:Gromit, have just watched back again the Monday's news briefing.

Re: Celebrities.....
Thanks Babian
I watched it yesterday, but I wasn't really surprised!
I can't remember ever hearing a really intelligent, incisive question from any of the journalists. They all appear more or less equally brain dead, or just trying to embarrass the PM, or catch him out by referring back to a decision he made when the situation was quite different.
When it gets to the questions we switch off now. My slippers are quite soft and comfy, but I don't think they would do the telly screen a lot of good!!!
Incidentally, I think his snail paced road map is a disaster, and will be the last straw for many jobs and businesses, not to mention those poor sods who fell through the cracks and have had no support at all for over a year!
Again it's not fair to blame Boris. Evidence is now appearing that the SAGE modelling was based on faulty data - yet again!! Not Professor Ferguson this time, but it was based on far too pessimistic estimates of the efficacy of the vaccines and the speed of their roll out. What is wrong with those people!! They bring a whole new meaning to tunnel vision!!!
This came from Andrew Brigden MP on the radio yesterday, when he described it as "Garbage in - garbage out".
I see no reason to doubt him. He would not be daft enough to give information like that on the radio if it wasn't true.

The last boat just sailed as above but Laura can be the first on the next one for sure.
More potential candidates, "Chef" was watching Loose Women yesterday, could someone tell my why they have to shout at one another and shout over each other please, is that really supposed to be entertainment! Ruth Langsford seemed to be the exception and I am sure there are others but Janet Street Porter is absolutely a gonner!

Neither of us can stand that programme, for exactly that reason. I'm a keen cook and often tune into a programme to see a chef demonstrate their dish, I can't tell you how often it gets ruined by inane loudmouth chat/questions/pearl of wisdom etc by the either the hosts or other guests.

Am I the only person in the country that thinks Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway is..... Shi*
Admittedly it has the odd feature that is original and amusing but as far as the rest of it is concerned it is just crap!

I think that sometimes we look back at old TV programmes through rose coloured glasses, it is what it is. Although I agree with your assessment, programme makers deserve some credit for getting something on screen under the current restrictions.

I've not seen a single episode of any series - as with most similar shows the trailer is enough to warn against watching. I also can't understand in watching programmes about hospitals etc - life deals out enough problems without going looking for them as entertainment.

I've heard lots of (mainly younger) folk sing the praises of this duo, so I did once watch a few minutes of one of their programmes to see if they deserved the high praise and awards they've received.
My conclusion? Dire is a kind work, they had the comic timing of a cement mixer. It was obvious they were fish out of water without a teleprompter.
This was a few years ago and I doubt they've improved since.

Almost all the press questions have been a complete waste. When you consider that they are limited on how many they can ask you would think they would put a bit more effort to ask something useful and less repetitive.

The reason?
Anne Robinson becoming the "new" host of Countdown.
My wife is a regular viewer but can't stand that woman.
Have the programme controllers got no idea?
Where's all the new local talent when they're needed?
I remember when Richard Whiteley came on and was a breath of fresh air. **
Sadly, everything seems to be going stale lately.
Must say I thought that appointing Anne Robinson as the host of Countdown was a big mistake but everybody deserves a chance, don't they . Now that I've watched her for a few weeks, she has confirmed my (and your wife's) assessment
