Hi,  wave has anyone any experience of fitting a suitable roof box to a monocoque fitted with roof bars, and any recommendations regards
type/make of box most suitable, thanks

I haven`t and wouldn`t, I think there is a thread on here somewhere about roof boxes. ie the weight and access to get at them .someone else will be along soon to comment I am sure.

I did put one on but found the Clubman wouldn't fit under some local railway bridges!
Also, getting things up there felt like an accident waiting to happen.
Went for a Fiamma back box on the L brackets in stead of the bike rack. Nice easy access. Just remember it's there when reversing!

I would suspect that it would also adversely affect fuel consumption up on the roof, as well as the cost and convenience of ferry crossings, as it might not fit under the car deck on some ferries.

I wouldn't do it either, and I climb about on our van roof like an orangutan.
