Fly screen on hab door
just been to the Manchester camping show and saw a AS Bourton with a fly screen (looked like a Remus cassette type) on the hab door. It's something I really miss on my late 2014 model. Does anyone out there know if the part can be bought and would it fit? The salesman at the show said , "Yes, not a problem." I'm not so sure. Any one fitted to be or know the ins and outs, cheers.

I'm not so sure either... unless A-S have dumped the awful Hartal door (the one thing I REALLY hate about our van).

The new hartal door has a fly screen but it cannot be fitted to the old door. That's direct from a Hartal trained engineer.

We were also told by someone from Auto-Sleeper at the NEC Show in October that the flyscreen could not be retro fitted to our 2014 Hartal door.

Definitely; we looked at a 2015 Winchcombe last November and asked about that. The answer was a definite NO!!Claytaa wrote:Thanks for the advice, I thought he was talking b.....ks and now I know.

Re: Fly screen on hab door
Well on Ebay there is a flyscreen for a Hartel 'caravan' door and several other flyscreens from motorhomes if anyone feels they could make one fit..

Re: Fly screen on hab door
I spoke to Mark at the NEC show last October and he said, the only way it could be fitted, is to remove the old door and replace with the new type.
As the doors are bonded in position, they have to be cut out. Estimated overall cost he said would be about £2500, remember that was an off the top of his head estimate. So could even be more.

Should have asked him for a quote from his list of van options sheet.
My 2003 Eriba caravan had a good one from eriba/hymer. Can,t see the problem of offering it as an optional extra........it was fitted as standard on my 12 year old caravan, It was a vertical one in a cassette, worked really well......I'll miss it, at least SWMBO will.....
Can't see what the problem is ........................

Re: Fly screen on hab door
Friends of ours have a full width and depth cassette type fly screen fitted on their caravan which seems quite delicate and has to be opened quite carefully. Compared to our hartel door - which with the window open and fly screen down may not be equivalent to a full size screen like our friends but gives plenty of ventilation and a lot less prone to damage. The clever bit with the hartel door is that it shares the same hinges as the window which means it can be clipped back in an open position so that it is not affected by opening and closing of the door.
IMHO it may not have the full benefits of a full size fly screen door in way of ventilation but not that far behind if the window is left in its full open position and clipped back to the van side.

Best not run the fridge on gas setting though.
By the way isn't that a Dometic Seitz door not Hartel? https://www.reimo.com/de/bilder/intern/ersatzteile-daten_2012/dometic-seitz/product-documentation/data/61%20carad-rplus.pdf

Re: Fly screen on hab door
You're right about the door!!! and take your point re the gas. I made a clip that holds the window about 1" from the vent - will have to re design it to give a bigger gap just in case.
Cheers

I find the Hartel doors a load of rubbish, how A/S can brag about it being a "feature" is beyond me, my previous vans doors have been dometic Seitz and have been no problem at all, I would think that A/S buy in the Hartel door because it is probably cheaper, as they seem to be penny pinching wherever they can.

This is not the type of Hartal door referred to in the original post; the design is completely different. The issue regarding not being able to fit a fly-screen is caused because of the thickness of the door. When closed it protrudes inwards beyond the door frame by over two inches. There is another thread somewhere which covers this in detail.

The Seitz doors (as pictured) are no longer produced & you can't even get spares (I've tried) guessing Auto-Sleepers don't have any choice but to now use the Hartel doors, the Seitz doors in comparison to the Hartel ones now look very dated so I don't think its penny pinching by AS in fairness, they can only fit what's available.
