Rose Princess Grill Facia
One of the tasks I have yet to resolve in the maintence of my "old girl" is the re-finishing of the grill facia on my early 1995 Executive. The grill vent original colour being cream and presumably powder coated which has not stood the test of time or limited use.
Whilst the oven and grill had not seen very much use the grill facia was in a sorry state, paint blistering and early rust.
I have had it off the unit a couple of times and after shot blasting painted it with high temperature specialist paint which proved to be a waste of time. Its currently coated with silver smooth Hammerite
The so call high temperatue paints previously applied either blister or peel off after a few minutes exposure venting fumes. We have never used the oven or grill but I want to restore the item to original condition. I have even procurred the decalls to match the original controls.
Does any one have any suggestions. Serious consideration is being given to stove enamalling, problem is finding companies who will do small one offs locally ie West Mids / Black Country.
Alternativly considering chrome plate but suspect that would tarnish with heat exposure?
As usual open to suggestions and advice.
Final solution would be to replace the lot hob included, with new or good preused this would be expensive.
Carlo
p.s.
Of course finding a replacememt part is next to impossible. The company who made the oven CampingGaz have long since ceased to trade.

Carlo,
Photos would help us to see what you mean.
VHT paint needs to be cured, did you do this?
Frost Autos sell DIY nickle plating kits.
CampingGaz no longer trading??

Never known Campinggaz do fitted ovens. Confused by what you call grill fascia and reference to venting fumes. Are you talking about external vents? Definitely more info needed.

Thanks Frank,
Yes it was cured. The vent from the grill is on the front its what the gas control knobs are located into. On each side its a box section fabrication. Veiwing the early photos of the Executive shows it clearly.
And yes CampingGaz were definatly responsible for the item. The current company deny any knowledge!

I stand corrected. Look at this thread which confirms the make and you'll also see a link to a supplier of the fascia....

Re: Rose Princess Grill Facia
Now I understand what you mean by the venting grill being on the front. May be worth giving these people a try as the Princess Oven & Grill were used on caravans of the same age and maybe get a replacement instead of trying to paint what is possibly a stove enamelled part.

Paul,
Enquiry in hand with the company suggested.
They have ovens shown on web site but no combined ovens and grills.
I have made enquiies with a vitreous enammeler company. Who state item may not stand heat of process being pressed steel, but at least they will look at it and give an opinion.

I too have seen the light (just got in - been out all day), seems odd that VHT paint won't do it, it will stay on exhaust manifolds. What do they use on gas fires?

Re: Rose Princess Grill Facia
Frank,
Used that type of spray paint, it reacted to the heat and blistered! Possibly because of the relative thiness of the steel and related expansion.
Also only available in limited colours - mainley black-silver -red etc.
The item clearly takes a lot of heat from the grill.
The plan is to take it off again, end of September / October and have the vitreos enammelers asses the items ability to stand up to the process.
Regards
Carlo
